UFC 148 Predictions | MMA in Plymouth | 30 Days FREE

UFC 148 is taking place this Saturday, 7th November 2012, in Las Vegas Nevada at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. It has been dubbed as the greatest event in history MMA history, and the main event Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen as the greatest fight in UFC history.

If you haven’t seen it already check out the UFC Primetime video for the main event.

Here are my predictions for the Main Card

Ivan Menjivar vs. Mike Easton
This should be a great fight. Both of these guys are exciting fighters to watch and coming off wins. Mnejivar is 3-1 since making his Bantamweight debut and possesses excellent stand up striking and grappling skills.
Mike Easton’s nickname is ‘the Hulk’ and he certainly lives up to it. He is a Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under Lloyd Irvin and has good wrestling that allows him to take the fight to the ground, and fast striking skills.
Whatever happens this should be an exciting MMA contest, and I think probably one of the best on the card
Prediction: Easton by decision

Chad Mendes vs. Cody McKenzie

Mendes is considered the second best featherweight in the world. He was running through opponents until he faced and lost to Featherweight champ Jose Aldo. Mendes has great wrestling skills and, like most members of Team Alpha Male, tight guillotines. However, he has struggled to finish opponents in the past.
Cody Mckenzie is an interesting character, that originally came to light as part of the Ultimate Fighter: Koshceck vs GSP. He is originally from Alaska and is a member of Team Fancy Pants. Mckenzie is also the possessor of one of the best and most unorthodox guillotines in MMA. He was at one point 10-0 with all fights ending via Guillotine. Mckenzie has struggled against guys who he cannot submit, and that usually ends with him taking a beating.
Prediction: Mendes via stoppage in round 2

Dong Hyun Kim vs. Demian Maia
Demian Maia is one of the best Jiu Jitsu practitioners to have ever competed in the UFC. He is multiple time Jiu Jitsu World Champion and former ADCC champion. He has been diligently working on his striking at the Wand Fight Centre. Whilst he has made great improvements in this area he still struggles against good strikers.
Dong Hyun Kim is one of the most well rounded MMA fighters in the division, and has quietly been working his way up the ranks. This is his biggest test to date, and it will show up how he performs against an elite level competitor and on the main card.
Prediction: Kim via decision

Cung Le vs. Patrick Cote
The is another super exciting fight. Cung Le is the former Strikforce Middleweight Champion, however he never defended the belt, choosing to focus on an acting carrier instead of MMA.
He is always an exciting fighter to watch and possesses some of the best kicks in MMA. In his last appearance at UFC 139 he faced Wanderlei Silva and lost via TKO in round 2.
Cote has not fought in the UFC since October 2010. After climbing his way to the top he lost to Anderson Silva at UFC 90 due to a knee injury. In his next two fights he lost to Alan Belcher and Tom Lawlor. This lead to him being cut by the UFC. Since then he has worked his way back to the UFC and is on a 4-0 winning streak. Cote is a well rounded fighter with heavy hands and a good chin, exactly the kind of fighter Le struggles with.
Prediction: Cote stoppage round 2

Forrest Griffin vs. Tito Ortiz
This will be their third meeting inside the octagon both owning one victory. Ortiz is a legend in the sport known for his excellent wrestling and ground and pound. Griffin is one of the most likeable characters in the UFC and always comes to fight.
This will be Ortiz last fight in the UFC, and he will be inducted into the UFC hall of Fame at the Fan Expo before the main event.
Prediction: Griffin by Decision

Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen
Silva is the longest reigning UFC champion, and statistically the most accurate fighter. Before his first meeting with Sonnen he seemed unstoppable, and had demolished every opponent put before him.
This fight was different; Sonnen battered Silva for the first four rounds and was went into the fifth having won every round on the judges score card. Somehow Silva managed to triangle Sonnen in the last two minutes of the fight and get the win. He has excellent striking, and Jiu Jistu, his only weakness is his wrestling, something Sonnen excels at.
Sonnen is the best wrestler in the UFC’s middleweight division and has butal ground and pound. He has shown great boxing skills in his last few appearances and even knocked Silva down in their last fight.
This will be a great fight whatever happens
Prediction: Sonnen via decision
