Josh Barnett vs Dean Lister | Metamoris 4

Josh Barnett vs Dean Lister | Metamoris 4

Metamoris is fast becoming one of the premier professional grappling competitions. It’s previous three events have featured some of Jiu Jitsu, and MMA’s biggest stars including Shinya Aoki, the Mendes Brothers, and Kron Gracie.

The next installment, Metamoris 4, is set to take place on Saturday August 9th, 2014 at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

In an already stellar card that includes the likes of Andre Galvao, Saulo Riberio, and Chael Sonnen there is one match above all the others has intrigued grappling fans.

That match is Dean Lister vs Josh Barnett.

Dean Lister is one of the worlds best submission wrestlers, and is known for having vicious leg locks.

He is a two time ADCC world champion, and holds impressive wins over the likes of João Assis, Rodolfo Vieira, and Jean Jacques Machado.

What many grappling fans may not know is he has impressive MMA credentials boasting a 12-7 record/ He is the former King of the Cage World Champinon, and he fought in the UFC on multiple occasions.

He has also fought Metamoris several times drawing with Xande Riberio at Metamoris 1 and drawing with Renato “Babalu” Sobral at Metamoris 3

Josh Barnett is a former UFC Champion and has long been one of the top heavyweight MMA fighters.

During his illustrious career he’s fought in just about every major MMA organisation and amassed an impressive record of 33-7. This includes wins over the likes of Randy Corture, Mark Hunt, and Frank Mir.

Josh is also one of the foremost exponents of Catch wrestling, but also holds a black belt in BJJ given to him by Rigan Machado. Josh is also no stranger to Jiu Jitsu competition, winning the No Gi Worlds at Black Belt in 2009.

One of the things that makes this contest so intriguing is that both Barnett and Lister have very similar styles, and body types, but different grappling backgrounds.

Both are aggressive, have solid wrestling, and excellent leg locks, but Josh’s roots lie in Catch Wrestling whereas Lister comes from Jiu Jitsu.

This should be an exciting match with both guys looking for the finish and maybe we’ll finally have the answer to which grappling style is better; Catch Wrestling or Jiu Jitsu.

In a few weeks time I’ll post a complete review of Metamoreis 4 and my predictions.
